In this presentation, we revisit the black hole perturbation theory with a focus on two recent developments: asymptotic quasinormal modes and spectral instability. These phenomena not only enrich our understanding of black hole dynamics but also connect to broader questions in gravitational physics. We will discuss how the behavior of high-overtone modes can be derived analytically and how it may hint at an alternative mechanism for generating gravitational wave
echoes. By reformulating metric perturbations in terms of discontinuities, we uncover the origin of spectral instability and identify a criterion for its onset in the fundamental mode.Interpreted in light of recent results by Cheung et al., this perspective suggests that instability could be a universal signature of perturbed systems. The talk will conclude with possible observational implications and open questions for future exploration.

钱卫良于2003年在上海复旦大学获得理论物理学博士学位。现任圣保罗大学洛雷纳工程学院物理学教授。主要研究领域为理论物理,重点包括高能核碰撞、核物质性质以及广义相对论,主要研究方向为:流体动力学模型、核物质相变、径向流动以及黑洞的拟正规模。
